Three (of the many) Solutions that Christianity offers the world today!
by John Paul Philips
Throughout history, Christianity and the World have had an interesting relationship. Certain eras were more Christian while some others were but the opposite.
In a day where the prevalence of sanity is questionable; where people are unwilling to hear each other out; where everybody takes the "my way or the highway" approach"; and where everyone is quick to judge and reach their own conclusions: Christianity offers us three tried and tested solutions to consider.
- Seek Wisdom, like the great Solomon of the Old.
- Armed with that wisdom, be courageous to stand up for what is right like the great Queen Esther of the Old.
- Live with and for the Lord like Mary and Joseph.
1. Seek Wisdom, like the great Solomon of the Old
KING Solomon asked God not for wealth or long life, but for an understanding heart and wisdom to judge his people and to distinguish between good and evil (1 Kings 3:9). This teaches us the importance of valuing wisdom above anything material. In a society overwhelmed by both information and misinformation alike, seeking wisdom is more crucial than ever. This involves discerning truth from falsehood and making decisions not based on what is popular or convenient or trending, but on what is right and just.
2. Armed with that wisdom, be courageous to stand up for what is right like the great Queen Esther of the Old
QUEEN Esther's story is a powerful example of courage and standing up for justice. Faced with the potential genocide of her people, Esther, though initially hesitant, chooses to risk her own life to save them. Her story illustrates that true wisdom must be paired with courage — the courage to stand up for what is right, even when it is dangerous to do so. Today, this could mean speaking out against injustice, advocating for those without a voice, or simply doing the right thing in difficult situations. Even small acts of integrity can make a significant difference.
3. Live with and for the Lord like Mary and Joseph
The ORDINARY lives of Mary and Joseph exemplify faith and obedience. Despite the uncertainty and potential disgrace, Mary accepted her role as the mother of Jesus with faith (Luke 1:38). Joseph, too, showed unwavering faith by taking Mary as his wife and becoming the earthly father to Jesus, guided by Divine messages rather than societal judgment (Matthew 1:20-24). Their lives remind us of the importance of living in accordance with our faith, even when faced with skepticism or ridicule. This could mean prioritizing spiritual growth, serving others, and simply living out one's beliefs in everyday actions.
In drawing lessons from Solomon, Esther, Mary and Joseph, it is possible to live a life that is both principled and impactful. By applying these timeless truths, we as individuals can contribute to a more understanding, just, and compassionate society. Remember, change always begins with the individual!
